Bronze Age was set up by the Tan family in 1995. When David Tan, the founder of the shop decided to go into the pre-owned watch trade, his wife supported him whole-heartedly and his 2 daughters resigned from their jobs to join their father in the business. Thus, the birth of Bronze Age also united the Tan family. With such strong motivation and support, David and his family took over a souvenir shop located at Chinatown Point Podium B and converted it to sell pre-owned watches.
Back then, the unit was about 250 sq feet, out of which 150 sq feet was used as a showroom and the remaining as a workshop. With limited capital, the Tan family used their creativity to convert existing furniture left by the previous shop owner into watch showcases. The range of watches sold then were Omega, Rolex, Vintage and Dress watches. David even added his own private collection for sale in the shop.
Throughout the years, the Tan family always believes in placing the customers’ interest as their first priority by creating a “3 win” situation. Buyers gain when they acquire the products that they desire at a reasonable price. Sellers win when they trade their products for cash or for other products which they desire. Bronze Age, acting as a middleman, wins through making a commission from the sale of the items.
As the trend moved towards more prestigious and trendy watches, it became crucial for Bronze Age to change their purchasing strategy. This included venturing overseas to source for quality pre-owned watches at competitive prices. Hence, they managed to secure opportunities to widen their range of watches to include brands such as Patek Philippe, Jaeger LeCoultre, IWC, Franck Muller and many more. After acquiring more watches, another objective was to expand their shop space so that customers were able to browse leisurely, exchange ideas and appreciate the timepieces.
In 2004, Bronze Age shifted to a new & bigger shop unit at Chinatown Point. When renovating the shop, they always bore in mind their objective of providing a larger shop space for their valuable customers to browse watches at leisure. Hence a bigger shop unit was allocated for Retail Sales. More furniture, eg a long bench was added…
With this new location and the addition of Henry, David’s only son, into the family business, the Tan family continuously aimed to acquire good quality watches at good prices and provide their customers with excellent services.
Bronze Age faced a predicament in 2011 when the management of Chinatown Point decided to do a major revamp on the whole shopping mall. The revamp was carried out in 3 phases and shops would be asked to vacate their shop unit within a stipulated time. After Chinese New Year, Bronze Age received the notification to leave the shopping mall within 3 months. Hence shifting to a new location was inevitable.
The Tan family has since operated business in Chinatown area for 16 years. Therefore a new shop unit near Chinatown area was preferred. At that point, a double storey shop unit at Fook Hai Building was available. In May 2011, Bronze Age once again sprang back to business and strived to provide customers with high quality watches that are value for money. The 1st storey of their new shop in Fook Hai Building was utilized for Retail Sales and the 2nd storey for Services Center. The Tan family continued to fulfill their promise to create a “3 WIN” situation at all times.
In 2013, Bronze Age is shifting again due to external factors. The new location of their shop is at Blk 531 Upper Cross Street Hong Lim Complex #02-66A Singapore 050531.
No matter the number of times it has shifted, Bronze Age will always stand by its “3 WIN” vision and provide quality products to their customers.
Bronze Age is licensed by the government to buy-sell-trade in pre-owned watches. Other services include restoration of watches for quartz and mechanical fine timepieces, changing of watch batteries and leather straps.
